CSA

Community Supported Agriculture. This is where I buy a share from the farm. In exchange for my moola, I will pick up food from the farm over a set period of time on a regular basis. This gives the farmer money when needed, during the winter and spring-when all the preparation and planting is being done. Then come harvest time I share in the bounty which varies by what’s in season and what’s doing well under that year’s weather conditions. So some years may have a lot of one crop, another year, less of one and more of another. The benefits of joining a CSA are too numerous to list here but some of them include:

  • knowing my farmer and my food
  • freshness of my food from eating seasonally and locally
  • forcing myself to try new foods
  • meeting other cool people

This website lists farmers markets and CSA’s all around the country. Local Harvest Website
